The 5-8, 8-5 Logic
“Being Right Most Often”

Bang On

It wasn’t any real secret, the 8/5 Theory as we called it, but it was very interesting to see in a report.  The theory is fact, and if you have played a lot of Blackjack, you likely may already know this anyhow.  The premise is very simple, and very solid.  No matter what card the dealer has as their Up Card, they will always have 8 cards that can help them, and 5 that can hurt them or vice versa.  This never changes no matter their hand total.

It all starts when the dealer flips his Up Card.  If it’s a 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, it is a bad card for the dealer to start with.  We know that they now have 8 cards, for each of these cards, that will continue to keep the dealer in a bad hand situation.  So take any one of these and see how it works.  Let’s take the 4.  The 8 cards that hurt the 4 are:  Ace, 2, 8,9,Ten, Jack, Queen and King.  Respectively, those cards give the dealer totals of 5, 6, 12, 13 and the four-faces 14.  Those place the dealer back into another bad hand, meaning 60% of the cards will hurt them again.  The only 5 cards that help the dealer if they have a 4 are the 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, giving them totals of 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.  Those totals, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 are good totals for the dealer and now the dealer would have 8 cards that can help them and 5 that can hurt them.

The reason all this is fact is the dealer has a set of predetermined rules to follow.  The player can have a 14 and stand but this is not the case with the dealer.  The dealer has a set of rules to follow, hitting any hand 16 and under.  They do not have the options the player has.  The value of all this is shown in the 8/5 Report in the computer program.  Our logic was; if this was true, why just assume the dealer has a face card down, and only be right about 30% of the time, when I can show you how to be right 60% of the time?  Well, it works, and the numbers speak for themselves in the Reports.  No matter the dealers starting card, you know for a fact, if they are sitting in a 5 or an 8.  In the long percentages, the report comes perfect.
