Dealing Of The Cards
“17,000 Tables”

The Never Ending Cycle

In the never-ending battle of good vs. evil, right vs. wrong, David vs. Goliath (hey, least David and Goliath was a one on one fight), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the cards never stop.  It is a wonder more casino employees don’t go postal.  It just never ends.  The tables never close, the betting never ceases, the cards never stop, and a few players never sober up.  It is the life and times of Blackjack in North America and throughout the world.

For the fun of it we looked everywhere to find the longest session one player has played at one table in the history of gaming. We couldn’t find the answer anywhere.  If you have some great gaming stories like that, post them here.  We are betting some nutcase sat at some table playing Blackjack for 48 to 72 hours (Imagine the dealer coming on 24 hours later, “Hey how did you do yesterday?”—“I’ll tell you tomorrow!”).

It is true that the cards just never stop.  It is a continuous cycle with breaks only for shuffling, tray fills and counts, card and dealer changes and everyone’s favorite, the spilled drink.

After each shuffle and before start of play with a new shoe, the dealer burns a card (sliding it from the shoe to the discard tray).  Sammy from Casino Windsor knows each and every card he buries.  He can even name the suit (I know exactly how you do it Sammy, but I won't give it away!!!  Don't worry folks, he is having fun.  The cards are not marked and he is not cheating.)  When a new dealer arrives at the table to relieve the old dealer, he too burns a card.

Before any cards are dealt, players place their wagers.  Once each player is in, the dealer deals two cards to each player, one at a time starting to his left and going around the table, including himself.  All cards are dealt face up depending on the variation, with the exception of one of the dealer’s cards, which is called the hole card and is face down.

Starting back at 1st Base, or the first player left of the dealer, the dealer allows each player to play his hand.  Players have many options, covered in more detail here.  After all players have played out their hands in turn, the dealer flips over his hole card.  The dealer has set rules he plays by, most often hitting until he totals a hand of 17 or more.  Like the player, the dealer busts if his hand exceeds a total of 21.

After the dealer has played his hand, for the first time he starts at 3rd Base, or to their right and decides if the player has Won, Lost, or Pushed.  Using the Dealers Total they determine if the player has a winning hand, closer to 21, or a losing hand, under that of the dealer, and a push involves a hand that ties or is the same as the dealers hand total.  Players may not touch or alter their initial wagers once the dealer starts dealing.

The actual dealing of the cards is not the hard part.  The part that the players must do correctly to win is play each hand mathematically correct.  It must be understood that each hand has a mathematically correct and mathematically incorrect way to play.  McB Duplin wants things to be easy for the player, so the Playing 21 Program shows in the Hand Breakdown vs. Dealers Up Card, exactly how to play every single hand.  This is the first time in history that a program has been offered for sale that gives the player this much detail, and useful information. Playing 21 has taken the entire Blackjack experience to a new level.
