Advanced Strategies
“Card Counting—Varying From Basic Strategy”

The Count Down

There are three main categories associated with what is known as Advanced Strategy, and there is no way to achieve it without the use of card counting.  If you do not card count, reading anything here is wasting your time, but then again, how will you ever know what you are missing?  The two associated categories, which are then further broken down, are Card Counting, Wagering Variation, and of course Hand Variation.

McB Duplin had two questions we needed to answer if we were to prove or disprove what we had been lead to believe from others.  One was, are there hands where if we are Card Counting, the hand may be played best differently, depending on the count?  The second question was, would varying our base units bet at various counts actually allow us to produce a positive net wager, even if our wins and losses were still in the casino’s favor?  Both of these were logically sound in opinion, making sense to us.  One thing we always have loved is logic.

Imagine if you will a ship, on the technological edge of the future, sinking in 1912 on its maiden voyage. It rests two and a half miles down on the bottom of the ocean floor for 73 years before technology catches up, allowing satellites, deep-diving machines, and sonar to find its resting place. That is exactly what happened to the Titanic, but as futuristic as it was in 1912, it took technology of the future to prove exactly what happened.

McB Duplin found Blackjack to be very similar in many regards.  We had a game, centuries old which fascinated people more than ever.  There have been many different attempts before us to find the answers to our questions.  Many people devised theories and systems, supposed computer programs and have written books about their beliefs.  We simply questioned others and determined we had to prove if they were right or wrong. We were going to prove or disprove everything that has been said. About time, right…

Widely Believed

What others widely believed and what we widely believed was widely different.  We felt/feel half the stuff you can still read on the Internet today is complete bullshit.  Clearly, so many have such little comprehension about the game Blackjack that we felt light-headed reading most of it.  Some of it is totally absurd and outrageous.  If you’ve searched the net and/or read about Blackjack before owning, experiencing and experimenting with the Playing 21 Program, your jaw will more than likely drop hard and fast. Don’t feel too bad. We once believed all that junk also.

We don’t like being critical, but how can’t we with so much misleading information out there?  Things are overlapping each other, and sometimes both are wrong.  We felt that no one had a clue how to play. Finally, we can breathe a sigh of relief. The program answers all questions about Blackjack, with no debate.

We developed the Playing 21 Program to prove what was right.  We took everything one would need about card counting and incorporated it into the program.  We allowed the user to set up to 7 players, who may or may not count cards, but they could all count differently. This was the key.

Each player had their own First Hit Rules, Additional Hit Rules, Wager Variations, Card Counting, Insurance Options and on and on.  Just like being in the real casino, at the same table, everyone can play different and we all get different results.  We allowed each player to count in over 25 billion ways, just by placing different weights on different cards.  Now depending on the count, players could not only play the same hand differently, they could also wager different amounts of money.

If we were going to prove this, we had to go where no one has ever gone before with the game.  We knew Blackjack was like the human body in the sense it to had a DNA structure.  Our DNA for Blackjack was something called Hand Breakdown vs. Dealers Up Card.  Contrary to the million things you have seen before us on Blackjack, we knew the game was much simpler than we were lead to believe.  We understood if you were not card counting, there is a simple way to play each hand mathematically correct, and anything else was just plain wrong.  This was based on possibly Number of Decks and the House Rules, which the user could determine for himself in the Playing 21 Program.

The Hand Breakdown vs. Dealers Up Card was the most powerful Blackjack tool every invented.  How did we know for certain, considering all we read, what was right and what was wrong?  I mean, even a monkey can hit water if he fell out of a canoe right?  So, something had to be right, and we knew a lot was, but what was right, and what was wrong, exactly?  We were sick and tired of taking other peoples word for gospel.  We needed something that clearly could never be argued by anyone.

Blackjacks DNA

We decided to take each little cell in the DNA structure of Blackjack and allow the user to see everything about every single starting hand they could possibly get in the game.  So if the player was dealt an 8-8 vs. the dealer up card of a Face, before the Playing 21 Program, what was the best way to play this hand?

The answer wasn’t that hard to find out. We just needed to isolate everything, which is exactly what we did for every single possible starting hand in the game Blackjack.  No one would ever be misled again, everything was there in the Hand Breakdown vs. Dealers Up Card.  No more guesswork, and truly, there should have never been guesswork.

We broke every single starting hand a player could get into 45 different categories, and at 21 different counts if they were card counting.  That was the key to determining if Advanced Strategy existed in Basic Strategy Variation.  We couldn’t just show you how you did with each hand at just one count, regardless of if you were card counting or not.  That would of defeated the purpose.  What we did was show you every combination, like the 8-8 vs. the Face at 21 different counts for each.  So, is there a count when it makes mathematical sense to play the same hand differently, which we call Hand Variation?  We were certain there was, depending on the starting hand we had and the dealer up card, and we were also certain, the B.S. we had been reading, was as misleading as it was comical.

That was and is Advanced Strategy for variation of the hand, but there was more. Much more…

Wager vs. Win

To further prove what was called Advanced Strategy, we knew we had to factor in Wager Variation.  It was our belief, even before we made the program, that the game Blackjack was not beatable, no matter how you played.  We were firm believers in no matter how you played, you could not in the long run win more then 50% of the hands.  We felt certain we knew this, and felt certain the guys making all the money knew this too (That reference was directed at the casinos, but there are one hell of a lot of books sold that say otherwise.)

We did feel that the game Blackjack could be beaten, but not by winning more hands than the casino.  We felt that was impossible.  What I am saying is that you can’t win more than 50% of the hands you play, no matter how you play, but yet you can still win!  (Money is the bottom line.)

We knew that a wager and a win were two totally different things.  You can lose two hands and win one, and end up with more money.  Obviously this didn’t need to be explained, it was fact.  So the question was, how was the best way to bet, and through card counting, was there a count where we were actually winning more than we were losing?  If that was the case, we could bet more in these situations and clearly be a winner.

We invented something called the Win/Loss Report.  This would take everything in the  Hand Breakdown vs. Dealers Up Card and show you what you may have never seen, although you would have loved to years ago.  The report shows you your collective totals for how many rounds you played, but further breaks things down at each of the 21 counts.  What a fascinating concept this was; to show the player how he did at each count, and at what counts, by his preferred counting method, did his overall game improved.  The key is here, that although our complete game would not go over say 49% wins, maybe at a few counts it would.  Now we would bet more at these counts, ultimately making ourselves an overall net wager winner, even though still a win/loss loser.  If you are not grasping this yet, take your time.  We will get it across to you throughout the site.

You could imagine our excitement when we saw this all come together.  We weren’t coming out with useless math like in a number of books we’ve read. Everything here was valuable, and precisely what players needed to see. Now it is possible to become the ultimate player at the game.  Oh sure, our families were concerned about us starting cars the rest of our lives, but we were ultimately most concerned about our findings ruining the game of Blackjack.  Would the casinos alter the rules of the game making it impossible to win, or would they relish in the fact the Playing 21 Program created millions of Blackjack players willing to take up the game again. Basically we were taking out all the guesswork, and the impact on the casinos, and the people who play Blackjack, has just changed forever (by the way Mom, don’t worry.  Jr starts all the vehicles while I stand back a safe distance).

How Exactly to Count?

Finally, there was another question to do with card counting.  If card counting in fact effected the game as powerfully as we and others feel, what was the best way to card count?  Everything you read in books and read today on the Internet said Thorp is right.  We logically knew he was incorrect in his theories, but we did believe he just might be right.  We couldn’t even begin to fathom we were logically right and mathematically wrong, because how the hell could we have been totally misled for the past 40 years.  We were adamant in our beliefs and very passionate about our work, but we were never close-minded.  A closed mind is like a closed book, just a piece of wood.  We were never so stuck on what we believed that we shunned reality.  We were never idiots, with arrogance towards the great, but we were logical.  We believed we were right, but we truly were not certain.  We did not know if our theories on Card Counting were 100% logically sound.  This was the sole reason the Playing 21 Program was made to begin with.
